About the Course

The Global Energy and Climate Policy course offers an introduction to the theoretical and practical understanding of how energy and climate change policies are designed, shaped, advocated and implemented. As energy markets go truly global, domestic energy policies are becoming more and more entangled with wider issues of international governance. Concurrently, the urgent need to mitigate and adapt to climate change and transition to a low-carbon future is adding a further layer of complexity. The course is aimed broadly at people interested in learning more about interconnected issues in energy and climate policy globally. It assumes a level of interest but no necessary previous knowledge. However, the course also offers sufficient up to date research and new critical perspectives to be of interest to people with expertise in or academic familiarity with the topic as well. The main aim of the course is to provide this wide-ranging introduction in a self-contained, but in-depth form, alongside the important practical skills necessary to understand and discuss energy and climate policy, and lay the groundwork for greater engagement in the future – either through academic study, in the public, private or not-for-profit sectors....

The Global Energy and Climate Policy MOOC provided an excellent foundation for understanding the intersection of energy systems, climate change, and international governance. The mix of readings, lectures, and discussion forums was engaging and encouraged critical reflection on both technical and political dimensions. I particularly appreciated the structured weekly assignments, which helped me practice analytical writing and apply theory to real-world policy debates. The course balanced theoretical insights with empirical examples, covering issues like fossil fuel dependence, nuclear energy, renewable policy incentives, and the Paris Agreement. I found the readings from leading research institutions (such as SEI and Carbon Tracker) extremely valuable in deepening my perspective. My only suggestion would be to enhance interactivity by providing more case studies from the Global South and adding quizzes after each module for self-assessment. Overall, it has been a rewarding learning experience that strengthened my understanding and motivated me to pursue further study in this field.

This course was great! It provided a lot of useful information and was a good challenge. Some of the most important articles and sources links provided don't work unfortunately and I couldn't find these sources available online so I believe they could be a little outdated. Otherwise I really enjoyed this course, the material was well laid out and interesting, and having this certificate even secured me 2 job interviews in the renewable energy industry!

This course provides wonderful opportunity for beginners who are eigher fresh graduates or in the middle of the career but want to switgh jobs or gain fresh knowledge. The design of the course is very effective. The only minus is the timing of the information and materials. This course and all reading materials was developed in 2016, thus, quite not uptodate. I will give it 5 score rating if it is updated.

This course gives you an overview of renewable energy, energy policies, and international agreements adopted for climate change. The course is more generic in approach, mainly to beginner level. However, more practical content like energy exercises, and policy case studies added to this course would make this course more demanding and interesting.

A well structure course with great video and reading material. It would be great if some of the content could be updated as a lot of things have evolved with regards to Energy and Climate Change since 2016 when this MOOC was put togeter.

The weekly assigment of 350 words is particularly useful. In order to write extensively, the students need to read the Course sources and find other available sources on the Web.
